Elliptical Sentences

Elliptical sentences is used to show similarities and difference. Below are the types of conjunction in elliptical sentences:

1. So, either, too, neither

• We use so and too after a positive sentence. Examples:

- Husna was at the mall and so was Rairi. 

- Husna was at the mall and Rairi was too.

• Neither is used after a negative statement. Examples:

          - Husna wasn't at the mall and neither was Rairi.
       
          - Long a time ago tulips did not grow in European country and neither did dahlia.

          - Husna wasn't at the mall and Rairi wasn't either.

2. Both...and & neither...nor

• We use both... and to express similarities and differences in positive form. Examples:

         - Both Husna and Rairi was at the mall.
     
        - Both Indonesia and Malay have rainforest.

• Neither...nor is used in negative form. Examples:

        - Neither Indonesia nor Malay has snow.

       - Neither my brother nor my sister likes mango.
